  In Remembrance of Deputy Chad Mechels  
Deputy Chad MechelsDeputy Chad Mechels was shot and killed when he responded to a well being call at a home west of Marion.

The funeral to be held Wednesday, March 18th, 1:00 pm at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse in Madison, South Dakota.

A memorial fund has been setup to help the family. People are encouraged to donate to the account at any Wells Fargo location.


Deputy Mechels had served with the Turner County Sheriff's Department for five months. He had previously served with the Lake County Sheriff's Department and Kingsbury County Sheriff's Department, for a total of five years of law enforcement experience.

Deputy Mechels is survived by his wife, 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.

Honesty and integrity are not to be the exception within the Office, but a requirement of all personnel. We will ease the safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic through a strong focused enforcement policy. We will serve as facilitators to seek solutions to community problems by responsive utilization of resources available within and outside our Sheriff's Office including cooperative ventures with other law enforcement agencies. We will treat all persons with respect and courtesy.
